Marymound honours National Indigenous Peoples Day with its own outdoor festival celebrating First Nations and Métis culture staged on the grounds of Marymound School at 442 Scotia Street.
The annual family event attracts 1,000 guests from surrounding neighbourhoods and beyond throughout a day that features a pow wow, dancers of all ages in colourful regalia, and many drum groups. The day is also filled with live entertainment, a free BBQ, and a traditional feast, games and activities for kids, pony rides, handmade crafts and more. Admission is free to the general public.
Marymound hosts this event each year to celebrate its youth past and present, and Indigenous culture as over 80 percent of its young people receiving services are of First Nations or Métis descent.
Marymound honouring National Indigenous Peoples Day is the highlight of the year for our staff, youth and the community.
