Youth Addictions Stabilization Unit
What Parents and Social Workers Have Said About the Program:
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Great Program & slight hope somewhere for the parents.
For the past year our family have felt completely powerless to assist my son with making healthy choices. This Program has given us (parents) some power back to help intervene with a child’s appropriate decisions. I will be sure to be a strong advocate for this program in Thompson if questioned about it. Thank You.
A good drying out spot for young addicts.
Good to have the program in place, would like to see a longer stay minimum two weeks and long distance toll-free so kids could call back to crisis line or chat with familiar staff. I will be telling other parent at parent meeting of the process and program at Brandon AFM.
My son seemed to enjoy his stay and hopefully can stick to his goals and plans.
It was good she had younger people to talk to and to tell stories of other kids to make her grab her opportunity to make her life better. I hope she help herself into changing for the better.
I think it would be nice for longer stay at YASU. Youth to participate drug workshop and dangers of usage.
If nothing else it was a catalyst to change.
Our son had no drugs shown on his urine sample and was released after two days - he has been doing better staying away from hard drugs. When we picked him up we found the staff extremely friendly and professional. I think this is a great.
Appreciated visiting opportunities with our son and appreciated having my son reflect and aided in creating a reasonable plan. Appreciated that he wasn’t released without a commitment of some kind. Wished this unit had been in operation sooner. Should be more beds and longer stay. Seven days of drugs or alcohol permits a better discussion of options with son. Impossible to talk to teen when abusing hard. Thank you again!
The staff is fabulous. The two girls that I have been working with have both stayed at YASU twice. Each time the girls have been at YASU they are motivated to make healthy changes. The girls have noted that they feel very connected to the staff and have expressed an interest in follow-up treatment with the staff that they have been working.
