“Wherever we may come alive, that is the area in which we are spiritual.”
~David Steindl-Rast
Marymound has an onsite Spiritual Care Coordinator who provides pastoral care and counseling to young people and families served by Marymound. The program is Christian-based; however, students and residents are encouraged to explore spirituality in a way that is comfortable for them. This ecumenical approach that works closely with Marymound’s Aboriginal Cultural Program, provides a well-rounded and accessible introduction to spirituality for the young people at Marymound.

The Spiritual Care Coordinator provides a range of programming and services, both individual and group that reach out to youth.
These may include:
- Grief and loss groups
- One-on-one support – a safe place to share spiritual experiences and innermost thoughts without judgment being passed.
- Memorials
- Spirituality workshops
- Therapeutic arts and crafts activities
- Traditional services and special celebrations, often including participation by youth, live music and drumming.
- Prayer requests
- Hospital visits
- Youth centre visits
Sometimes the Spiritual Care Coordinator simply provides a listening and understanding ear, helping youth to identify what is meaningful to them, assisting in empowering them and encouraging feelings of self-worth.
The Spiritual Care Coordinator also makes daily visits to classrooms at Marymound School, offering short inspirational reflections.
