Charlene Calder, Marymound’s Aboriginal Cultural Coordinator, recently received an
award for significant contributions to social work in Manitoba from the Aboriginal Social Workers’ Society.
Honoured as a role model of traditional values and visions, Charlene was featured in First Nations Voice, a publication of the Winnipeg Free Press.
Charlene, with assistants, Eric Flett and Karen Edwards, runs the cultural program at Marymound, ensuring that Marymound youth receive exposure to their culture.
Teachings, drumming, regalia making, smudging, sweat lodges, crafts, pow wows and medicine picking, are just some of the activities youth can participate in. Marymound’s Cultural Centre provides a calming and nurturing atmosphere that Marymound young people enjoy. Find out more about Marymound’s Cultural Programming.
