Thank you goes to all Winnipeg Mac’s Convenience Stores for permitting Marymound to situate coin boxes near their customer service tills.
Known for their generosity, Winnipeggers filled them with their spare change and donations, amassing a whopping $1,735 from May to July 2010.
We appreciate the opportunity to raise funds in this way.
Thanks to the Operating Nurses from the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Marymound youth are enjoying watching movies, reading books, playing with new toys and using a selection of personal grooming products.
Through a donation of lovely and bountiful gift baskets collected for the nurses’ annual dinner, these treats have been distributed to Marymound youth living in our group homes and units and set of books has gone to the Marymound School library.
CEO Ian Hughes attended the dinner and accepted the gift with thanks.
Thank you to our dedicated supporter, Joyce Birsten, who works at the Grace, for suggesting Marymound as the fortunate recipient.
Marymound’s Camp Maryglen has been around since the 1950s. Looking at the before picture below, you can see that its cookhouse kitchen was in need of some tender, loving care.

Camp cookhouse before
Thanks the generosity and determination of Dan Voth (DMV Designs), the cookhouse kitchen and staff kitchen have been totally transformed into modern, highly functional places to prepare meals for Marymound youth and staff.
Dan orchestrated the entire project soliciting donations (in-kind and cash) from the following: Coast Wholesale Appliances, Stalwart Machinery & Appliances, Springhill Lumber. J.M.D. Development Inc. Mar-West, and DMV Designs. Special thanks to Andreas Giesbrect for doing the installation.
Marymound thanks everyone involved in making this renovation possible. Our young people will enjoy it for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets. We topped $10,000 in sales. This will go a long way in providing extra curricular activities for the young people in Marymound’s care.
We all know the feeling of coming home after a long day. It is our place of refuge - a place to unwind, be ourselves and most of all, relax.
It is especially important for the young people in Marymound group homes that their home away from home be comfortable and in good condition. They may not be living with their families, but they deserve to be in as home-like an environment as possible.
Marymound’s Dreamcatcher group home furniture had definitely seen better days. Wear and tear had caught up with the much-used dressers, rugs, side table and dining room furniture.
The Women’s Endowment Fund of the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba came to the rescue! They provided a grant of $8,200 to Marymound to purchase furnishings for Dreamcatcher.
Frugal Marymound staff made the most out of the funds, buying dining room chairs, dressers, area rugs, side tables and even a new TV entertainment centre. The group home is now well-equipped and looks fresh and renewed.
“It’s so refreshing,” said Daphne Pogue, Dreamcatcher Program Coordinator. “We’ve had the same furniture here for so long. It’s so nice for the girls to have brand-new, durable furniture they can be proud of.”
Thank you the generous people at the Women’s Endowment Fund of the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba for making this group home transformation possible. The girls residing at Dreamcatcher will live there in greater comfort thanks to your gift.

See you there!
On Friday, Feb. 19, there was a special event held in downtown Winnipeg. SNOW (Safe Night off Winnipeg) Night, an evening of safety and pampering for women and transgendered people who work on Winnipeg streets, took place at one of the Salvation Army facilities.
Marymound was contacted to see if we would like to donate items or perhaps volunteer to help. We decided to volunteer to cook and serve breakfast in the morning. About 10 management and staff members reported for duty promptly at 6 a.m. and got to work, preparing mounds of pancakes, toast, bacon, scrambled eggs and hash browns to 75 hungry SNOW Night participants.
It was hard work under pressure to get everything ready in an hour in an unfamiliar industrial kitchen, but teamwork and determined spirit got us through - and the appreciation from the people eating made it all worthwhile.
We were all happy to help out at this great event that was so well organized by Sage House and the Salvation Army. It was evident that the participants were having a great time, enjoying some relaxation time.
Good job, everybody!

Marymound young people will be staying extra warm this winter thanks to a big donation of colourful mittens, hats and scarves.
The elders, their families, staff and volunteers from River East Personal Care Home collected all these winterwear items.
They have been distributed to youth in our group homes in Winnipeg and in our Receiving Home and Futures Program in Thompson.
Thank you so much to everyone who thought of Marymound youth!
Marymound recently received a donation with this touching letter from a young girl . In it she refers to the Marymound girls who designed our annual Christmas card and bookmark we sent to our past donors. Yes! This young philanthropist has given before.
Her heart is certainly in the right place. We thought this was so touching we just had to share it.
