Drug Stabilization Workers (Casual)

 

Positions:

Youth Drug Stabilization Workers (casual) – all shifts

 

Scale:

Casual workers will be paid on the Direct Service 1 scale ($12.31 - $17.89 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience)

 

Location:

Youth Addictions Stabilization Unit

 

Summary:

Youth Drug Stabilization Workers are responsible for the care, safety, support and transition of drug-addicted youth in a secure, short-term stabilization unit. Stabilization workers report directly to the Program Coordinator.

 

Duties:

  • Facilitate admission and discharge procedures within strict timelines
  • Orient youth, families and collaterals with all aspects of the admission, assessment and discharge procedures
  • Participate as a member of the addictions team in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individual intervention and treatment plans to meet the needs of youth and families
  • In collaboration with nursing staff, monitor, assess, address, document and report symptoms and changes in youth's condition
  • Calmly and competently perform carry out decision-making and critical thinking in stressful and emergent situations
  • Examine, assess and document behaviour
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation and records
  • Assist youth/families in accessing additional community resources
  • Be aware of each youth's needs (physical, emotional and spiritual)
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with youth
  • Carry out day to day tasks and routines
  • Intervene in times of emergency or crisis
  • All other duties as outlined on the job description

 

Qualifications:

  • Certificate/Diploma in Child & Youth Care, Social Work or other Social Sciences degree (other combinations of education/experience may be considered)
  • 5 years experience working with high risk youth in a treatment or special needs setting
  • 3 years experience working in the addictions field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in assessment and intervention techniques related to addiction issues
  • Specialized training in addictions preferred
  • Good observational and communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record & Child Abuse Registry checks
  • Excellent physical and mental health with ability to perform demanding physical activities and work in stressful situations
  • Available to work various shifts
