YDSW or RN scale, depending on qualification and experience

 

Location:

Youth Addictions Stabilization Unit

 

Summary:

This is a casual position involving on-call availability for the completion of Form 1 and 2 admission assessments and participation as part of an addictions review panel as required. Incumbents must have thorough knowledge and understanding of The Youth Drug Stabilization (Support for Parents) Act and must successfully be granted an ‘Addictions Specialist' designation by Manitoba Health. This position reports to the Program Coordinator.

 

Duties:

Form 1 and 2 Assessments

  • Completion of Form 1 and 2 assessment forms within strict timelines as defined under the Youth Drug Stabilization (Support for Parents) Act
  • Form 1 assessments to be completed as soon as reasonably possible after admission, within 24 hours
  • After the assessment, but within 24 hours, issue a stabilization order to detain the youth in the facility, if satisfied that the required criteria has been met
  • Where a stabilization order has been issued, Form 2 assessments and confirmation of stabilization order or release authorization to be completed as soon as reasonably possible by a second addictions specialist worker, within 48 hours

 

Review Panel Hearings

  • When a stabilization order is appealed, participate as part of a formal Review Panel in hearings held at the facility
  • Objectively and fairly review all requirements and information pertaining to the stabilization order
  • Ensure that the youth is given a reasonable opportunity to be involved in the hearing process as defined in the Act.

General Duties

  • Participate in regular supervision with supervisor, including annual performance reviews
  • Participate in staff meetings as required
  • Participate in appropriate staff development opportunities
  • Operate and maintain essential office equipment e.g. computer, fax, photocopier, etc.
  • Represent the organization (formally and informally) in a respectful, professional manner
  • Adhere to standards of professional conduct consistent with the Standards of Care for Good Shepherd Agencies
  • Carry out tasks and routines in a manner that contributes to positive team morale
  • Assist with short-term projects or other duties as required

 

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a degree acceptable to the minister from a post-secondary educational institution
  • Must have at least 5 years' experience providing substance abuse assessment and treatment services directly to youth
  • Experience working with Aboriginal youth would be an asset
  • Above average interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good observation and communication skills
  • Ability to relate positively and therapeutically to youth
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in assessment and intervention techniques related to addiction issues
  • Knowledge of challenges facing today's youth
  • Awareness of and respect for spiritual and cultural differences in others
  • Basic computer skills
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks
  • Excellent physical and emotional health
