sweepMarymound recognizes that young people’s needs are evolving and changing. Many of the young people we care for need extra training and support for life’s journey. Most of our youth are in school and education is a value we hold dear. But school-based programming doesn’t always meet the growing needs of all our youth, especially as they transition to independent living.

Marymound offers the Student Work Experience Education Program (SWEEP) to all program areas within Marymound. This gives our young people the opportunity to gain real life experience in the workplace.

SWEEP can offer:

  • Training opportunities in Marymound’s kitchen and/or landscaping team.
  • Help in finding volunteer opportunities matched to participants’ interests
  • Résumé preparation
  • Job search methods
  • Mock job interviews to prepare for the real thing
  • On-site mentorship
  • Community work hours
  • Workplace Safety and Health training
  • Help enrolling in adult education programs and other training opportunities.

Young people in the SWEEP Program gain:

  • Sense of empowerment and self esteem
  • Validation of their own abilities and discovery of hidden talents
  • Improved confidence, professionalism and feelings of self-worth
  • Improved life skills
  • Better preparation for adulthood and independence
  • A positive work ethic.

How SWEEP benefits employers

As a SWEEP employer, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you are helping a young person gain experience and increased feelings of self-worth. You are playing an important role in the community, giving young people positive options for the future. This can make a real impact on a young mind, opening up opportunities and possibilities they may not have previously considered.

If there is a task that you/your staff needs done, but just can’t get around to, SWEEP can help.
