June 2, 2015, Winnipeg, MB:  One of Winnipeg’s favourite annual community events returns tomorrow with a new host and a great line-up of local entertainment that celebrates First Nations and Métis culture.

Michael Champagne, youth activist and founder of the Aboriginal Youth Opportunities (AYO) group is proudly hosting the event for the first time. ”I am thrilled and honoured to be hosting this event as many of the youth in care at Marymound are my people,” says Champagne.

The family event annually attracts 1,000 guests throughout the day that features First Nations culture, including a Pow Wow, dancing and colourful regalia, and drumming along with a traditional feast of homemade stew and bannock. The day also offers live entertainment, a BBQ, games and activities for kids, pony rides, handmade crafts, and new this year–a dunk tank has been added to complete the fun-filled day. Admission and meals are free.

“This is always a special day for Marymound because of how our staff come together in the planning and coordinating of this greatly anticipated day for the community,” says Jay Rodgers Marymound CEO.

Invited back to perform under the big tent are Sagkeeng’s Finest, the Asham Stompers and the Gaudry Boys, with Leonard Sumner performing at the celebration for the first time.

There is plenty of free, extended parking available on the surrounding streets.
